Panama Birding Adventures features cozy accommodations in the middle of a tropical paradise. Agua Blanca is situated in the heart of twenty-six acres of prime undeveloped birding habitat. The house overlooks the Chiriqui Viejo River and is adjacent to a spring-fed pond. The access road has recently been upgraded to a newly graded two-lane road that cuts through a local dairy farm and several vegetable farms. Currently, the final leg in is by foot approximately half a mile. There are also 85 steps up, so visitors should be in moderately good health. There is a caretaker on site and he can help with transporting bags and supplies.
Agua Blanca is located approximately 15 minutes from the bustling town of Volcan, which features many restaurants, grocery stores, a pharmacy, and several banks with ATMs. When needed, modern conveniences are only a short drive away from the property.
The Upper Quarters of Agua Blanca include a lovely open veranda overlooking the river, and a bedroom with a 360-degree glass and screened view of the surrounding forest. This bedroom features a new, queen size bed and bathroom with a shower. All water is spring-fed and carbon filtered. The veranda is a perfect spot for nighttime star gazing or sunning and relaxing to the sounds of the rolling river.
The lower level of Agua Blanca includes a full kitchen with counters, a propane four burner stove, and a propane refrigerator. The kitchen has a sitting area and dining table for four. Another bedroom can be found on this level with its own entrance and two twin beds, and a bathroom with another on demand hot water shower. A futon style couch can sleep two more people.
Best of all, the lower level features a beautiful wrap around open porch that overlooks the Chiriqui Viejo and a spring-fed pond that attracts many species of Humming Birds. You don't even have to leave the porch to experience a large variety of unusual and prolific birds, such as the giant endemic Violet Saberwing, distinctive Herons, Motmots, and Cuckoos. Sit back and enjoy a close-up opportunity to photograph or watch birds in their true natural habitat.
Agua Blanca is off the electrical grid, and utilizes candles, lanterns, and solar lights. A
generator is available upon request, with a refundable deposit. The house is shaded by several fruiting trees, which are favored by many species of birds, including the unusual Blue Hooded Euphonia, as well as Speckled, Silver Throated, Blue Hooded, and Bay Headed Tanagers. See our full Bird list.
There is also the availability to camp with the house rental.
