Firm Overview
Since 2001, Graft Law Offices, PLC has been dedicated to providing
high-quality estate planning services to individuals and families
throughout Northern Virginia. The firm's founder and principal
attorney, Jon S. Graft, Esquire, remains focused on achieving an
essential objective—creating and maintaining strategic estate plans
that work. Combining his strong academic background, including a
Juris Doctor, Accounting degree, and Master of Laws of Taxation, with
his extensive experience, Jon Graft is able to develop highly
effective, and successful estate planning strategies. Further, Mr.
Graft is a Contributing Veteran Member of the National Network of
Estate Planning Attorneys, a nationwide group of independent estate
planning attorneys dedicated to combining the experience of hundreds
of attorneys nationally to create and maintain the best plans in the
country.
Notably, Jon Graft employs a unique "TrustWorks Estate Planning
Process", which is centered on achieving results, not simply on
filling out documents. The unique process follows the guiding
principle that the key to proper estate planning is clear,
comprehensive, and customized instructions for your own care and that
of your loved ones. These instructions can be conveyed using a
number of tools, including wills, trusts, and other related documents.
The "TrustWorks Estate Planning Process" consists of a three-step
approach, beginning with: Develop Your Plan With Counselling Oriented
Planning Partners. The unfortunate fact is that what often passes
for estate planning in this country is little more than word
processing. A document oriented attorney will simply fill in the
blanks on a pre-existing form while providing very little advice and
very little analysis of a client's unique situation. Jon Graft
believes you shouldn't pay licensed professionals to conduct word
processing, but rather for their counsel and advice. Consequently,
Step One starts the process off correctly by relying on Jon Graft's
knowledge, wisdom, and experience to guide you, to thoroughly review
your unique goals and desires, and then coordinate with other
professionals, including your financial advisor and accountant.
Step Two of the process is: Commit Yourself and Your Family to a
Continuing Maintenance and Education Program. An estate plan should
be dynamic and reflective of the constant changes in your personal,
family, and financial situation. In addition, there is constant
change in both tax law and non-tax law that impacts your estate
plan. Further, your attorney's experience and expertise are
constantly changing through ongoing education and collected
experience. Consequently, a good estate plan must be continually
updated to accomplish what it was intended to accomplish. The costs
of failing to update an estate plan are far greater than the costs of
keeping your plan current.
Finally, Step Three is to: Secure Appropriate Assistance for You and
Your Family to Transfer Your Wisdom Along With Your Wealth. Passing
on your wealth to the next generation is a basic goal of the estate
planning process. Passing your wealth along in an orderly and
protected manner is distinctive from simply passing it on. Further,
passing on your wisdom to the next generation is another thing
entirely. A good estate plan will accomplish all three. Working
closely with Jon Graft, your heirs will be able to receive their
inheritance in a form that is protected from creditors and predators.
Additionally, Jon Graft employs a team approach to developing an
estate plan. By involving all of your professional
advisors, including your accountant, financial planners, and
insurance agents, in the planning process, you are far more likely
to have a plan that works. If not, you may receive conflicting
advice that leads to confusion and inaction.
Ultimately, Graft Law Offices, PLC aspires to the highest ethical
professional behavior that will lend dignity to the client, the
planning professionals, and the planning process. We remain
committed to developing high quality estate plans that meets clients'
unique goals and keeps them in control of the process and the results.
