Jonathan L. Kales was born June 5, 1969 in Bethesda, Maryland and grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia. He graduated from Bates College (B.A.) in 1994, and subsequently earned his Law Degree (J.D.) from the University of Connecticut in 1998. After receiving his Juris Doctor, Mr. Kales practiced in some of Northern Virginia and Washington D.C.’s most highly regarded family law firms. Mr. Kales’ practice areas span all aspects of family law, including divorce, separation, alimony, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, property allocation, debt allocation, mediation, collaborative practice, and pre-marital agreements. He is a member of the family law section of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyer’s Association, and the Fairfax Bar Association. He is a member of the Virginia Joint Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution and is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution section of the American Bar Association and the Fairfax Bar Association. Additionally, Mr. Kales has been certified by the Virginia Supreme Court as a Family Mediator for both the Circuit Court and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. He is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. He has lectured at the Women’s Center of Northern Virginia in the areas of Uncontested Divorce and Post-Divorce Issues. He lives in Fairfax County with his wife and two young sons, Jackson and Noah.

Amy Grillo Kales was born February 19,
1972 in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Loudoun County, Virginia.
Ms. Kales graduated from Mary Washington College, cum laude,
(B.A.) in 1994, and subsequently earned her Law Degree (J.D.)
from George Washington University in 2003. Her passion for
the legal profession is evidenced in over a decade of legal
experience beginning as a paralegal, then law clerk, and
culminating as an associate attorney in the insurance liability
field at Jackson & Campbell, P.C. in Washington D.C. Ms.
Kales is a member of the family law section of the Virginia
State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the American Bar
Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyer’s Association, and
the Fairfax Bar Association. She is admitted to practice
law in Virginia and the District of Columbia. Amy Kales was
Notes Editor for the International Law Review of George Washington
University, and has published an article in the same publication
on “Inter-country Adoption.” Her practice areas include divorce,
separation, alimony, child custody and visitation, child
and spousal support, property allocation, debt allocation,
and pre-marital agreements. She lives in Fairfax County with
her husband and two young sons, Jackson and Noah.
